How to Create Effective Ad Photos That Sell
Why Photos Matter More Than Words
On a classifieds platform, your photos are the first thing a buyer sees. Before they read your title, before they check your price — they look at the photos. If the photos are bad, most buyers scroll past without reading a single word.
Natural Light Is Your Best Friend
Take photos near a window during the day or outdoors in open shade. Avoid direct sunlight (it creates harsh shadows) and avoid artificial lighting (it creates color casts). The golden hour — about an hour before sunset — gives the warmest, most flattering light.
Background Matters
A cluttered background distracts from your item. Clear the area around what you are selling. A plain wall, a clean table, or an outdoor setting with a blurred background all work well. The focus should be entirely on your product.
Show Multiple Angles
For small items, show front, back, sides, and any details. For electronics, show the screen on and working. For furniture, show the whole piece and then close-ups of material quality. For cars, shoot from the front three-quarter angle — it is the most flattering perspective.
The Cover Photo Is Everything
Your first photo determines whether someone clicks on your ad. Make it the best one. Show the entire item, in good light, with a clean background. This is the photo that appears in search results alongside your title and price.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Do not use flash — it creates glare and washes out colors. Do not use filters — buyers want to see the real item. Do not screenshot product images from websites — buyers want to see the actual item they will receive. And do not take photos of dirty or messy items — a 5-minute cleanup before shooting makes a huge difference.
