How to Negotiate Like a Pro When Buying Used Items
The Art of Negotiation
In Pakistan, almost every transaction involves negotiation. It is part of the culture. But effective negotiation is not about being aggressive — it is about being informed and respectful.
Do Your Research First
Before you contact a seller, search for the same item on OEADS. See the price range for similar items. If you know that used iPhone 14s are selling for 90,000-110,000 PKR, you know what a fair offer looks like.
Start Reasonably
Offering 30% below asking price is not negotiation — it is insulting. A good starting point is 10-15% below asking price. This shows the seller you are serious and opens a conversation rather than shutting it down.
Point Out Objective Issues
If the item has visible wear, mention it as a reason for a lower price. "I can see scratches on the screen, so I was thinking 85,000 instead of 95,000" is much more effective than just asking for a lower price without reason.
Be Ready to Walk Away
The most powerful negotiation tool is being willing to walk away. If the seller is firm on a price that is above market value, politely decline and look elsewhere. There are always other listings.
When to Accept
If the price is already fair and the seller is not budging, accept it. Saving 2,000 PKR is not worth losing a good deal over. Sometimes the best negotiation move is knowing when to stop.
